Empire Wingz Adds an Addis Restaurant on Highway 1

Empire Wingz expanded into Addis in June 2025, bringing the Baton Rouge restaurant brand to 7743 Louisiana Highway 1. The location followed other openings that year in Gonzales and Zachary.

Its June 14 opening followed roof repairs, new furniture, and fresh paint. For a chicken-wing restaurant preparing a new location, walk-in coolers and the timing of initial food deliveries are practical parts of moving from building work to regular service.

Owner Vic Smith started Empire Wingz near Southern University in 2016. The Addis expansion continued the company’s growth across the capital region, alongside its food-truck operation. The restaurant’s menu includes traditional and boneless wings, fries, and its Deucey Juice drink, giving the Highway 1 location a familiar format for customers already acquainted with the brand.

Hundreds Visit Railroad Park for Addis’ Boo-gie Bash and Bazaar

Railroad Park became a fall gathering place when Addis hosted its Boo-gie Bash and Bazaar on October 4, 2025. WBRZ reported that hundreds of people attended the Saturday event, which combined live music with shopping and activities for children.

More than 30 vendors participated, offering food, handmade goods, and art. Face painting and a petting zoo added to the afternoon’s family focus. For food sellers bringing extra perishable stock to an outdoor crowd, mobile refrigeration can fit into the preparations beside cooking equipment and serving tables.

Mayor David Toups described the celebration as a way to bring generations together. The event brought that idea into one shared space, with longtime residents and families visiting the same stalls, listening to music, and spending time in the park.

Thunderstorm Winds Near Grosse Tete on December 25, 2012

A December 25, 2012 entry in NOAA’s storm archive describes strong thunderstorm winds in the Grosse Tete area, in Iberville Parish. NOAA’s event narrative records, “Thunderstorm winds blew down trees on Sidney Road.” Where a food operation’s usual storage was unavailable, refrigerated containers could become part of a temporary operating plan.

Flash Flooding Near St Gabriel on May 17, 2021

May 17, 2021 brought flash flooding to Iberville Parish, with a report logged about 0.75 miles northeast of St Gabriel. The local account states, “Magnolia Drive and Plantation Drive in St. Gabriel impassable due to high water.” A commercial kitchen awaiting mobile refrigerated trailers would need an accessible delivery point beyond any blocked or flooded approach.

White Castle’s Mardi Gras Parade Drew a Large Iberville Parish Crowd

White Castle’s 2026 Mardi Gras parade drew more than 6,000 people, according to WAFB, offering Rosedale-area readers a large celebration within Iberville Parish. Floats, music and food brought families into the streets on February 17. For businesses preparing food around a public gathering of that size, cold storage remains part of organizing ingredients before service.

Late-December Storms Leave Addis Without Power

A late-December storm system interrupted electricity across Addis in 2018. WAFB’s December 27 coverage reported that the entire Addis and Brusly areas had been without power the previous night, within a wider West Baton Rouge Parish outage affecting nearly 6,000 people at one point.

The power interruption arrived as heavy rain and thunderstorms continued across the capital region. For restaurants and markets, an extended outage makes emergency cold storage with a separate power supply a practical contingency for perishable inventory.

The report also documented outages elsewhere in the region and continuing flood concerns into Thursday night. Local businesses and residents faced the immediate task of managing an interruption during the holiday week.

Broken Hydrant Triggers a Boil Advisory for the Brusly–Addis Area

Water pressure dropped in the Brusly–Addis area in August 2012 after a fallen tree broke a fire hydrant connected to a main water line. West Baton Rouge officials reported that utility crews repaired the break, but pressure needed time to recover.

A precautionary boil advisory covered customers south of the Intracoastal Canal while water samples were reviewed. Restaurants dealing with interrupted water service still had to account for ingredients in cold storage as they adjusted preparation and service plans.

The advisory was subsequently canceled after the state health department reported negative test results. The episode involved both a physical repair and a separate water-quality check, with customers waiting for the official clearance before returning to their usual routines.

Hail Near White Castle on April 24, 2015

The White Castle area saw hail on April 24, 2015, according to the storm report for Iberville Parish. The damage account notes, “Wind gusts to 50 mph were also reported.” Where a food operation’s usual storage was unavailable, refrigerated containers could become part of a temporary operating plan.

April Storms Interrupt Power in Baker

Baker was among the communities dealing with power interruptions after severe storms crossed the Capital Region on April 10, 2024. An afternoon report said electricity had largely returned in Baker and nearby Zachary, although some neighborhoods remained without service.

An Existing Building Becomes the Addis Community Center

The Addis Community Center grew out of a building-conversion project rather than an entirely new site. West Baton Rouge Parish purchased the property in 1997 for $373,000 and leased it until conversion work began in 2003.

The parish’s account put the conversion cost at just over $1 million. The center opened in 2006 and became a venue for local gatherings, with a stage, event space, and kitchen facilities. Catered functions also require cold storage to be planned alongside kitchen preparation and serving space.

The facility at 7520 Highway 1 South remains part of the parish’s recreation system. Its development gave Addis a dedicated location for celebrations and community functions, with food service included in the building’s practical use.

Addis Combines Its Mardi Gras Parade With Railroad Park’s Mambo and Market

Addis built a full day around its 2026 Mardi Gras parade, pairing the February 7 procession with shopping and music at Railroad Park. The parish’s February newsletter listed the parade for 1 p.m., with the Mambo and Market running around it.

The Town of Addis and Louisiana Artisan Marketplace organized the park program. Shopping was scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by an overlapping afternoon performance from Tuxedo Speedo. Local coverage described handmade goods and specialty foods among the offerings; vendors handling chilled products would need cold storage close enough to restock without leaving their stalls unattended for long.

The combination gave families a reason to spend more of the day in town, with the parade, market, and live music sharing the same celebration.

Flash Flooding Near Brusly on July 25, 2010

July 25, 2010 brought flash flooding to West Baton Rouge Parish, with a report logged in the Brusly area. The local account states, “Heavy rain, possibly as much as 8 inches in 90 minutes, produced flooding of streets and approximately 110 homes in the parish.” Any refrigeration trailers bound for an affected property would need a clear approach before delivery could proceed.

Thunderstorm Winds Near Plaquemine on January 11, 2020

A severe-weather report was logged about 0.6 miles west of Plaquemine on January 11, 2020 after strong thunderstorm winds affected the area. The archived observation reads, “The Iberville Parish Emergency Manager reported a large oak tree was blown down in Plaquemine with minor damage to a couple…” The practical concern for food premises would be whether walk-in coolers and other essential equipment remained in service.

Plan around the Addis address.

A project in Addis starts with the same practical questions: which functions need to remain available, how the trailer can reach its placement, and how utilities will connect.

  1. Share the site and storage needs

Send the address, start date, expected rental length, what needs to stay cold, its holding temperature, and the approximate quantity.

  2. Review the unit and site requirements

We match a refrigerated trailer or container to the product and space, then review power, placement, access, and any mobile kitchen or dishwashing support.

  3. Confirm the quote and delivery plan

Availability, rental terms, delivery, and setup are confirmed in your quote before the unit is scheduled.

Benedetto’s Market Builds a Grocery and Marine Supply Business in Addis

Benedetto’s Market established its Addis operation in 2004, adding a Highway 1 grocery business to a family history in south Louisiana food retail that began in 1932. The store at 6651 Highway One South serves local shoppers and also supports a marine supply operation.

The business offers groceries and supplies for vessel customers, including dockside deliveries and a cooperative arrangement for round-the-clock midstream service in Baton Rouge Harbor. Handling perishable orders for customers on land and water makes cold storage an everyday part of that kind of grocery distribution work.

The market also offers deli and bakery orders, including party trays. Its Addis location combines those household and catering needs with a wider delivery business, extending the work of a local supermarket beyond the checkout counter.

Flash Flooding Forces Families From Homes Off Chris Drive

Heavy rain sent floodwater into Addis homes on April 24, 2025, with some of the most serious problems reported around Chris Drive. Police Chief Jason Langlois told WAFB that crews helped roughly 40 to 50 people leave the affected neighborhood.

By the following day, residents were assessing damaged belongings and electrical problems inside their homes. One resident described electricians disconnecting stoves and dishwashers after finding water in an outlet. If temporary meal support is arranged during displacement, refrigerated trailers can provide space for fresh supplies while household kitchens remain unavailable.

The mayor said the town had received reports of exceptionally heavy rainfall over a short period. Parish officials contacted the Red Cross and planned to work with state emergency managers as residents began sorting through the damage.

Thunderstorm Winds Near Port Allen on April 7, 2019

A April 7, 2019 entry in NOAA’s storm archive describes strong thunderstorm winds about 0.6 miles east of Port Allen, in West Baton Rouge Parish. The damage account notes, “A report was received from the public of a damaged patio cover in Port Allen.” If a food business lost access to its normal refrigeration, refrigerated trailers could provide space for stock during recovery.

Baton Rouge Volunteers Pack Thousands of Food Boxes After Hurricane Ida

September 11, 2021, became the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank’s largest disaster-response day to that point as volunteers worked through the demand created by Hurricane Ida. The morning began with 25 volunteers distributing groceries to 173 qualifying seniors at the food bank.

Fire Destroys the Mad Hog Saloon After Super Bowl Night

The Mad Hog Saloon in downtown Addis burned late on February 3, 2013, shortly after closing. Earlier that evening, the bar had hosted Super Bowl customers and celebrated its first anniversary.

Fire Chief Mike Alleman told WAFB that the building was heavily involved and its roof had already collapsed. The loss immediately shifted the property owner’s attention toward what might come next. For a bar rebuilding after a fire, replacement cold storage and beverage deliveries have to fit around the return of a usable building.

The address carried several chapters of Addis history. It had housed Caldwell’s Grocery in the 1960s, later became the Addis Cafe, and was also associated with the Big Twin Thunder motorcycle shop. Its destruction removed a familiar downtown gathering place.

Brennan’s Lemonade Prepares Its Next Stage of Growth in Addis

Brennan Williams was preparing to take his lemonade business into a larger phase of production in October 2026. The Addis entrepreneur planned an October 11 launch at the town’s community center, with tastings, a ribbon cutting, and an introduction to the brand’s updated look.

Williams told the West Baton Rouge Independent that his drinks were already sold in eight stores, beginning with Benedetto’s Market in Addis. Scaling a bottled drink business means matching production and deliveries with any cold storage the finished product requires.

The development work included new recipes, bottles, labels, and products. Williams was also working with the LSU AgCenter’s FOODii incubator as he developed a recipe suitable for larger batches. He described the expansion as the next step beyond the lemonade stand he started at age nine.
