Easter Tornado Damages Homes and Power Lines on Arcadia's Western Side

An EF1 tornado struck the western side of Arcadia on April 12, 2020, with estimated peak winds near 110 mph. The National Weather Service traced the storm from near Highway 9 south of Interstate 20 toward the east-northeast.

The tornado snapped or uprooted trees and damaged power lines. It destroyed a small outbuilding on Sapp Street west of Smith Avenue, removed part of a nearby home’s metal roof and rolled a mobile home off its foundation along Crawford Road. Where electrical damage interrupts a kitchen’s refrigeration, independently powered cold storage can become part of the immediate recovery arrangements.

The track crossed I-20 before ending north of the interstate. The federal storm record lists no injuries or deaths for this tornado and estimates property damage at $200,000.

Arcadia Plans a Christmas Parade, Tree Lighting and Downtown Caroling

Arcadia’s 2025 Christmas Festival was scheduled for November 22, with a parade followed by a tree-lighting ceremony at Henderson Jordan Park. The November event announcement set parade lineup for 4 p.m. at the Eugene Smith Events Center and the start for 5 p.m.

Decorated floats, bands and community groups were invited to join. After the parade, the park program included caroling, hot chocolate and cookies while supplies lasted, plus a prize drawing supported by Bienville Medical. If the drink service used fresh milk, cold storage would be part of preparing those refreshments for the evening crowd.

Admission was free, and families were encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The program linked a familiar parade route with a shared gathering around the downtown Christmas tree.

House of Raeford Includes Arcadia Plant in Poultry-Processing Expansion

House of Raeford Farms announced plans in July 2019 to upgrade its chicken-processing plant in Arcadia alongside its hatchery in Gibsland. Louisiana Economic Development described at least $5.7 million in building changes and new equipment across the two Bienville Parish sites.

The combined project was expected to create 105 direct jobs and retain 924 existing positions in the parish. At a poultry-processing operation, cold storage and the movement of chilled products are part of the daily production chain that any expansion must accommodate.

The announcement also described a separate feed mill in Simsboro, linking processing, hatching and feed production within the company’s regional operations. House of Raeford supplied food-service businesses, grocery retailers, schools and other customers. Louisiana offered a performance-based $1 million grant toward the Bienville Parish production improvements.

Arcadia's CASA Car Show Pairs Classic Cars With Food Trucks

Cars of every make and model were invited to Arcadia’s CASA Car Show on October 11, 2025. The fundraiser was scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a $25 entry fee for participating vehicles and proceeds supporting CASA of Bienville, Claiborne and Jackson parishes.

The advertised program included prizes, raffles and food trucks, giving visitors reasons to stay beyond a quick look at the cars. For vendors serving through the morning and into lunchtime, cold storage for perishable ingredients would be part of their setup alongside cooking and serving equipment.

Organizers directed vehicle owners to CASA’s local contacts for registration. The event combined a community car gathering with a regional fundraising effort, bringing food service and family activity into the same Saturday program.

Power Repairs Continue Around Arcadia After Hurricane Laura

Power restoration continued around Arcadia after Hurricane Laura in August 2020. Entergy’s August 31 update named Arcadia among the communities where crews were working that day, while 1,069 of the company’s Bienville Parish customers still lacked service at 4 p.m.

The utility had completed about 85 percent of its damage assessments in the parish and estimated that most customers able to receive electricity would be reconnected by the following night. For a food business waiting for repairs, refrigerated trailers with an independent power supply could provide a temporary place for perishable stock.

The National Weather Service described widespread fallen trees and power lines across Bienville Parish after Laura. Crews were clearing damage and repairing the network as the restoration effort continued across Arcadia and neighboring communities.

Arcadia Council Supports a Hotel and Two-Restaurant Development Proposal

Arcadia’s Town Council supported a proposed hotel and restaurant development in June 2024. Mayor O’Landis Millican described plans from Black Gems Investments for nine acres north of Sonic, including a four-story HomeTowne Studios by Red Roof and small drive-through locations for Little Caesars and Dunkin’.

The proposal used modular construction, with building sections to be delivered and assembled on site. For the restaurant spaces, cold storage and ingredient receiving would need to fit the compact kitchen layouts alongside drive-through service.

Millican told the council that the developers were still working toward a modular-building contract and estimated seven to eight months of construction once arrangements were finalized. The council approved its support unanimously, while the town attorney outlined annexation steps for the property. The development was intended to draw business from Interstate 20.

Plan around the Arcadia address.

A project in Arcadia starts with the same practical questions: which functions need to remain available, how the trailer can reach its placement, and how utilities will connect.

  1. Share the site and storage needs

Send the address, start date, expected rental length, what needs to stay cold, its holding temperature, and the approximate quantity.

  2. Review the unit and site requirements

We match a refrigerated trailer or container to the product and space, then review power, placement, access, and any mobile kitchen or dishwashing support.

  3. Confirm the quote and delivery plan

Availability, rental terms, delivery, and setup are confirmed in your quote before the unit is scheduled.

Brookshire's Celebrates a Renovated Arcadia Supermarket

Brookshire’s marked the renovation of its Arcadia supermarket with a ribbon cutting on August 1, 2019. Company leaders and city officials gathered at the store, 1335 North Hazel Street, to introduce the updated space to the community.

The work included fresh interior and exterior paint, new décor and signs, flooring, checkout stands and shopping carts. In a grocery renovation, maintaining cold storage for perishable inventory belongs alongside the visible changes customers see on the sales floor.

Company chairman and chief executive Brad Brookshire said the business had been part of Arcadia for more than 40 years. The project refreshed an established food-shopping location, with the ceremony giving residents an opportunity to see the changes after the renovation.

January Ice Storm Strands Drivers Between Arcadia and Ruston

The January 2026 ice storm left drivers stranded for more than 30 hours on Interstate 20 between Arcadia and Ruston. The National Guard brought food and water to people in the traffic backup and helped move disabled trucks as state police and road crews worked to reopen the route.

Ice and stalled vehicles blocked lanes and shoulders, making access difficult even for recovery equipment. Motorgraders cleared the roadway while salt trucks followed behind. The same storm also disrupted electricity: Entergy’s published recovery estimate put Arcadia’s expected restoration at January 29. For an affected kitchen, temporary cold storage still needs reliable power even when temperatures outdoors are below freezing.

The emergency brought transportation and utility problems together, with food distribution continuing while crews tackled the damaged network and immobilized traffic.

Teriyaki Plans a Restaurant Renovation in Downtown Arcadia

An existing building at 1950 North Railroad Avenue was being reconstructed and updated for a new Teriyaki restaurant in early 2023. Owner Armando Ayala planned to bring a Japanese-style menu to historic downtown Arcadia, including grilled chicken, steak and shrimp with rice, noodles and vegetables.

Ayala already operated restaurants in Ruston and had more than two decades of food-industry experience. His Arcadia plans paired a new dining concept with the renovation of an established downtown property. A menu built around meat, seafood and fresh vegetables also makes cold storage part of the kitchen’s opening preparations.

At the time of the February announcement, the team aimed to finish the location and begin serving customers in April. Ayala described Arcadia’s small-town atmosphere and potential for growth as part of the appeal.

Fire Destroys Someplace Else Cafe in Historic Downtown Arcadia

An early-morning fire destroyed Someplace Else Cafe in downtown Arcadia on December 16, 2013. The restaurant, formerly known as The Junction, occupied an 1898 building in the 1900 block of Railroad Avenue.

Owner Loretta Womack told fire officials that a pan dropped while she was cooking sausage, starting a grease fire that spread quickly. She escaped without serious injury. Firefighters arrived to find flames in the kitchen and stairwell, with the roof also becoming involved. Restoring food service after such a loss would require clean replacement stock and cold storage as well as a usable kitchen.

Crews from neighboring departments helped contain the blaze. Ruston supplied a ladder truck, and officials credited that aerial response with helping protect the rest of downtown. A hot spot flared again shortly after 9 a.m.
